Reflexology is a holistic therapy and involves a very specific kind of foot massage. It works with the principle that over the surfaces of the feet (and the hands) there are areas mapped out that correspond energetically to every organ, gland and structure of the body, just as in traditional Chinese medicine.

We understand that there is a network of energy pathways that run throughout the body, called meridians and through which chi (life force energy) flows. Blockages in the energy system, caused by stress, illness, emotional upset and lifestyle, lead to imbalances in the body and further impair function. For the trained reflexologist, these blockages can be detected as gritty, sand-like crystals under the skin and may also be experienced as tenderness by the person receiving the treatment. Stimulation and work on these areas, restores the free flow of energy, promoting healing and restoring balance to the systems of the body as a whole.

Massage Reflexology At Day Spa

At your first appointment, I will discuss with you, your health and lifestyle. During the treatment, you will lie back comfortably in a reclining chair or on the massage couch. Your feet and lower legs will be bare. Particular pressure techniques and holds are applied, all over the foot generally and specifically to the individual reflex points. The session will end with a deeply soothing foot massage. Sessions last for an hour (with treatment time of approximately 50 minutes) but allow 75 minutes for a first appointment.

The reflexology treatment gives a clearing and energy boost to the entire body. Circulation, detoxification and elimination pathways are stimulated  and the body’s natural ability for growth and repair comes into play. The majority of people experience deep relaxation and release of tensions. As the relaxation response is triggered, this allows the parasympathetic nervous system to dominate (the opposite of the stress response) and therefore the body eases into a state of healing. Stress is reported to be responsible for, or a contributing factor in, up to 90% of illnesses.

Reflexology is suitable and beneficial for all ages and for the majority of conditions.  It  is not an alternative to conventional medical treatment but can beneficially work alongside it. Reflexologists do not diagnose conditions and do not claim to cure.
